Magee Centennial Celebration Committee

News Letter No. 1 November 6th 2012

Dear (First Name),

Thank you for subscribing to our Email Newsletters.

We have added additional content to our Magee Centennial Celebration website at http://www.mageecentennial.ca and are on the hunt for more stories and content. Do you know of a story we could tell? Do you have a picture or video which would be appropriate for our website?

Our Email Newsletter subscriptions are growing at a good pace and will serve Magee Centennial Celebration plans well. This data base will also be a legacy to assist with future Class reunions. Can you help us grow this data base by forwarding this email to other alumni?

Website Update

Three new pages have been added to our website.

The Magee School and Family History page has 4 articles and pictures documenting Magee Secondary's Early History, Magee Family History, Magee's Kerrisdale, and Millenium Magee. The first 3 articles were written by John Macdonald whose wife Brenda (née Timleck, '71) is a great great granddaughter of Hugh Magee. Her father, Gerry Timleck, operated the Magee Pharmacy at 49th and West Boulevard from 1965 to 1985. The 4th article was written by Eric Schieman (Retired) who was Principal at Magee from 1995 - 2001 when the old Magee was demolished and the new Magee built. Many thanks and kudos to these authors.

The other two new pages are Class Reunions and Links and Students Today. These pages include links to other Class websites and to News Articles regarding Magee on VSB's website. If your Class has a reunion, event, website or link you want to include on these pages, send an email to Barry Rhoades, our Information and Technology Member at brhoades@shaw.ca.

In addition to these new pages, several more stories have been added to the Sports page. Take a moment and read "The Planting of a Pole Vaulting Passion", "Vicki's Racquet ... Heard Around the World", and "Global Citizens Through Sport and Travel". Your reaction will likely be, "That's amazing! I never knew that!"

Hunt For Website Stories And Content

In developing our website, we have chosen not to try and summarize 100 years of school achievements and activities in all the various key categories.

Instead, we want to tell stories about individuals whose experiences in the high school years have had a lasting influence on the paths chosen in later years. For example, Dal Richard's experience with the Magee Jazz Band no doubt influenced the career path he chose.

Do you have such a story or know about someone who has? Send us your suggestion with some details and pictures and we will work to include it on our website. Better yet, write the story up and send it to us! By "us", we mean to Barry Rhoades, our Information and Technology Member at brhoades@shaw.ca

Do you have a picture which would be appropriate to include in the Centennial Book which Doug Sturrock our History Member is compiling? Send it to him with appropriate identifying comments at stmylo@shaw.ca
